Empower Student Voices Through AUSU's Creative Zine

As students navigate the university experience, it is crucial for them to have avenues where they can express themselves creatively, share their voices, and connect with their peers. The Algoma University Students’ Union (AUSU) recognizes the importance of empowering student voices, which is why they have established The Sentient, a creative zine that offers students the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents and share their unique perspectives.

The Sentient is not just a publication; it is a platform for students to explore their creativity, collaborate with fellow students, and engage with the university community. Led by an administrative staff member, a student editor, and a team of dedicated volunteers and student artists, The Sentient is a vibrant and diverse collection of written pieces, visual artwork, and creative projects that reflect the talent and passion of Algoma University students. In addition to The Sentient, AUSU also offers AURA Podcast, a series of episodes that provide another platform for student voices to be heard. Led by the Communications and Marketing Lead, along with a student podcast developer and a team of volunteers, AURA Podcast features a variety of segments, including messages from students, engaging discussions, and skill-sharing sessions. This podcast serves as a dynamic and engaging medium for students to share their experiences, insights, and talents with the broader university community. Looking ahead to the future, AUSU is excited to welcome a Working Group of volunteers in 2024 to further support the development and growth of The Sentient Zine and AURA Podcast. By harnessing the creativity and energy of student volunteers, AUSU aims to continue providing captivating and entertaining platforms that amplify student voices and foster a sense of community and connection on campus. As The Sentient and AURA Podcast strive to give a voice to student perspectives in a captivating and enjoyable manner, they play a crucial role in enriching the university experience for all members of the Algoma University community.
